In our last couple of games we have beaten a nationally ranked UNLV team on the road 1-0 ! At home on Friday we played real good in a close loss to 23 ranked Utah Valley 1-0. Yesterday our Vaqueros just got edged by 19th ranked Seattle 2-1 at home. It seems that we have turned a corner from the start of the season. Coach Leese stated in a recent interview just prior to Friday's and Sunday's clashes, that the team finally played focused for the entire duration of the game in the victory at UNLV. It appears that the Vaqueros are continuing that trend. GO VAQUEROS !

Seen some games. It appears all they do is defend and hope to catch a break like at unlv. Not sure playing with the hope of not losing is a good definition of competing. Especially when they have some decent players who appear marginalized by leesy's style. Must be frustrating for quality players to be forced to play a defensive style. I also heard practices are as boring as the games. And the result is good players sitting in last place in the WAC, and I imagine the unlv coach is still raging about dominating the game and coming away with a loss. They team must start playing to win as the players are good enough but getting outshot by double digits just tells me the coach has no idea how to utilize the talent he has.

Steve you obviously are not happy about alot going on with our soccer program. I and others are totally pumped to see UTRGV having a soccer team and doing well so far. They are a brand new team. Practices are not always glamorous and fun. It takes sweat, hard work, and a vision to START a program and develop it from the ground up. Yes we do have some good players and they are still developing. This coach deserves a chance to be supported. Our community is proud for many many good reasons and I say let's support the Vaqueros' and Vaqueras' soccer programs ! Great stuff ! V's up !!!

Steve you are much more well versed on this topic than I. I too have strong opinions about defending our university, community, sports programs and the greater RGV. I too would have wished other outcomes quite honestly about coaches now here, and other sports administrative decisions. Keep the passion Steve ! Too many folks are indifferent about these matters. Dr. Paul Sale is an administrator that will keep a close eye on these matters and decisions made by the Athletic Director forthcoming, so I am happy about that !

Booj, thanks for your interest. I want clarify that I too want UTRGV athletic to excel for the community and the student. It's wonderful opportunity for a lot people and a great what a fun time being a college athlete is. My interest peaked when my very dear friend Dan Balaguero was basically fired by Chris King. That is when I realized something was not right with Chris King and that he is a holding back the Valley and University. If you are truly interested please take the time to do some research on Dan Balaguero and his time at UTB. Note that he built the team from scratch and in the last season they went 24-0 prior to losing in overtime of the national championship game. Dan put quality teams together in the valley for 9 years and the was beating programs that were much better funded and crushing the competition in his conference (two solid ways to measure a coach - peers (conference play) and funding (scholarships/fascilities). Dan crushed it in both winning coach of the year 6 teams in the conference and posting something like a 65-5 conference record. UTPA did not have a Men's soccer team. Then the two teams merged. So you had one team and one coach. What was Chris Kings solution? fire Dan and hire a friend of friend. To this day I cannot believe nobody in the value rallied in support of Dan after the years of success and service. How does Dan explain going forward why he was fired by Chris King? He did everything right, but Chris King chose to hire from his personal network. I mean really take a moment and imagine if that happened to you. You get pushed after doing everything right simply because one guy doesn't like you after meeting you for an hour? Chris King proved he was hiring to improve his personal network simply by stating on multiple occasions that he want to leave as soon as he can find a better job. If I was publicly announcing to my boss that I was waiting for a better offer from a competitor I would be shown the door. If it turned out I was firing people and hiring friends of friends right before I was prepared to leave I would probably also be sued. The only defense Chris King tried to use for hiring a friend of friend was that he was not currently coaching in the NCAA. Well I certainly believe being the only coach of two merging schools should be enough to overcome such a shaky argument. Oh, and then Chris King decides to fire the Volleyball coach at UTPA and hire the Volleyball coach from UTB so clearly that was an issue. All I ask is that someone cares enough to look into to this and really see that Chris King has ruined somebody's career for his own personal gain, hiring a friend of friend. There should be uproar. A career was ruined and Chris King doesn't care, and it's important that the community realizes the kind of person making decisions before more lives are left in the wake of Chris King's legacy. This wasn't an "on the fence" error. Explain the situation to any A.D in the country and see if they think it was fair decision, and after the friend of a friend connection, it's borderline legal but certainly not ethical. A 9-yr employee, perfect annual reviews, 5 time coach of the year, builds program from scratch, goes 24-0, and is the only Men's soccer coach of the two merging schools. I just can't believe the community doesn't find it outrageous, and that the legal department doesn't have any concern with such a decision being made. It certainly shows the character of Chris King and the lack of compassion for people and careers other than his own. I'm certain Dan is not the first person that Chris King has attempted to ruin but lets try to make it the last, whatever complex Chris has someone needs to help him get over it so he can hire the right people not fulfill his personal ego and agenda.

Dan Balaguero was not fired. He was never hired.

Sure, ok. Two schools merged to create Ut-RGV. One school with a soccer team and one school without a soccer team. If the only soccer coach within the two merging schools does not have his contract renewed what is it considered if not being fired? The players from the merging schools got to stay but the coach did not. Call it what you want. Chris King decided he didn't like somebody and that was the end of that persons career. if there was a soccer program at each school prior to the merger and one coach could not be signed then you would be right. This was not the case. It's sad that nobody cares, especially when an employee did everything right for 9 years. note: UTB went undefeated before losing in overtime of the national championship. The co-captains of the first UT-RGV team were both Dan balagueros players, so it certainly would seem he was recruiting the right people and winning. Chris King Ad utrgv hired a friend of a friend and the results speak for themselves.

Steve if your friend is as good of a coach as you say he is, if he hasn't already, then he should not have a problem getting another coaching position. Especially with his success. I don't believe that just because he wasn't hired at one school means his coaching career is over.

James: I would say less than 70 Men's head soccer college coaching jobs open up each year. You really believe it's easy just to go and get a new job, I don't think you are being sincere when you say. Also, I didn't say it was my opinion that Dan was a good coach. I simply referenced the results he had in one of the two merging schools. After you reviewed those results? If you have you will see the signs of a winner.
Original Bob: Again, you really feel that Head Coaches dream of their next job being an assistant coach and that is the general career progression. Again I don't think you are being sincere in your analysis.
James and Original Bob: You have a coach who did everything right for 9 years, and is then forced out of not only the school but essentially the Valley since there is only one coaching job. You can attempt to drift this conversation towards the ambiguous but the facts are still the facts. A quality coach was forced out by Chris King. That coach moved 2000 miles North to take an assistant coaching job and your argument is that it seems like a fair. You tell me why Chris King did it?
