Yes it appears to be a reality now with groundbreaking date being early Fall 2015. It is very exciting ! It will indeed be a truly nice and modern venue with a the biggest and nicest scoreboard in the whole D-league it has been announced. It was also announced that the last home game in the UTPA Fieldhouse against UMKC in 2015 was the last one to be played there. Renovations are planned to further upgrade the old facility to utilize it when there are scheduling conflicts with the Vipers. Since about 1976-'77, I have seen many a great game in the Fieldhouse against our Broncs. I have also seen many great players play with and against our Broncs. NBA stars like Karl Malone with La. Tech, Derek Fisher with Arkansas State, Steve Kerr with Arizona, Antoine Carr and Cliff Levinston with Wichita State, Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson with Baylor, and Tyrone Corbin with Depaul. There might be 1 or 2 more NBA big achievers, but I really doubt it. My posse and I got it covered. Best games in my opinion were the triple overtime game victory over South West Louisiana (Now Univ. of Louisiana at lafayette) 114-106. Michael "Bird" Edwards scored 35 and Henry "Hank" Taylor scored 30. Another huge victory was against Wichita State. They had the above mentioned monster players among others. They were like 14-0 and ranked top 15 in the country. They were beating people by and avg. of 30 plus points. Our own star, who played short stints NBA professionally, Ken "Apple" Green hit last second jumper to send the 5,500 plus fans in the Fieldhouse into a frenzy. Many super battles with the Lamar Cardinals too. One of those Lamar home games set the official attendance record at 5,600 plus fans. Other games were just left at 5,500 or 5,200 officially I guess cause see it was hard to tell since some folks walked in at halftime from north doors to not have to pay. As all seats got filled, even folks sitting on the steps disabling most others from walking up or down, they/we would just stand on baselines (true facts). Good times and memories at PAU and UTPA Fieldhouse ! Great players and games await us ! Go UT-RGV VAQUEROS !!!

New artist rendering of what the new Bert Ogden Arena will look like. I can't wait to see the Vaqueros play there!

The new Bert Ogden arena should help boost recruiting for UTRGV mens and womens basketball. Hopefully sign some top notch talent, 3-5★ recruits that will elevate the programs to respectability and prominence amongst mid-majors.
I like how the building/suites look, except for the seating. I prefer the full circle around the court. Just being a tad bit picky. Obviously its way better than anything the teams have right now. Cant wait to see how the finish product will look and take in some good basketball games.

Looks Terrific ! Seating design is suited for concerts and other stage presentations, but it it's still an amazing venue overall. First class !

A little bit of the cynic in me thinks that UTRGV should sell-out The Fieldhouse for more than a couple of games a year before they move to a giant arena. Maybe play some big non-con games there but still continue to play on campus for a bulk of the season until there is enough buzz around the team to justify the move into a bigger venue.Being in Kansas City, I go to a few UMKC games each year and they play at the Muni which seats about 6000-7000. It looks terrible in person and on television when only 1500-2000 people are in attendance and the rest of the seats are covered in tarp. It also appears the UTPA/RGV recently dumped a decent amount of collateral into The Fieldhouse too. Got to at least get your money's worth.
One HUGE thing this could do for not only the program but the Valley is non-con tournaments. Down the road in Corpus Christi, Texas AM-CC host the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic that attracts a four team field. I think it is only their second year doing this but teams like UTEP, Colorado State, and Southern Illinois played in it this year. It's a good way to talk up your program and get exposure and hopefully the home field advantage equates to a win too.

You're right but I also like the move to the new arena if they go that route. It gives everyone better accessibility to games than the fieldhouse. To me at least the fieldhouse just doesn't seem very inviting for someone to go to a game. This would be a much harder decision if the students attended the games but they don't, so might as well cater to the ones who do which is everyone else.

You have a point there. It's a similar situation UMKC was in prior to joining the WAC. The athletic department wanted more student involvement one year so they decided to stop playing at Municipal Auditorium, which is downtown and a good 10 minute drive from UMKC's campus, and they set up shop at Swinney Rec Center which is on-campus. This was literally the same rec center students used during the week to play pickup basketball except they would roll in some bleachers during game time. It did not work and after the city of Kansas City helped renovate Municipal Auditorium, they moved back to the Muni. Ultimately fans will go anywhere if the product is good.

Florida Georgia Line is my favourite country music band. Headliners Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are those people that could make anyone sing along with them. It's the reason I like to visit their concerts. And - that's surprisingly wonderful - in 2019 they have CAN'T SAY IT AIN'T COUNTRY TOUR which covers all the US cities and towns. For tickets info visit Florida Georgia Line Tour 2020.
